Strathmore is a suburb of families in brick veneer houses. The original 1950s and 60s homes on streets like Noble Avenue, Rosebank Avenue, and Fenacre Street set the character — solid post-war builds on good-sized blocks. Knockdown-rebuilds are increasingly common, with large modern homes replacing the originals, and townhouse developments are filling in on subdivided lots. The Tullamarine Freeway runs through the middle of the suburb, splitting it into northern and southern halves. Owner-occupation is very high — over 80% own or are paying off their home — and most households have children. Large family homes mean large laundry volumes.

Access is straightforward across most of Strathmore — wide streets, driveways on almost every property, and unrestricted parking on residential roads. The one thing to note is the freeway split: getting between the northern and southern halves requires specific crossing points, so we route accordingly. The northern section is hillier with some steeper grades. Near the station and the small shopping strips on Woodland Street and Napier Street, parking can be tighter. No apartment buildings to navigate — this is front-door pickup territory.
