Strathmore Heights is a single planned estate developed from 1960 — about 400 homes, almost all single-storey 1960s brick veneer on standard suburban lots. The street names are aviation-themed reflecting the proximity to Essendon Airport: Boeing Road, Lockheed Street, De Havilland Avenue, Fokker Street, Vickers Avenue, Caravelle Crescent. Mascoma Street is the north–south spine and longest street. The housing is more uniform than Strathmore proper, which has a much wider architectural range. Townhouse and dual-occupancy developments are starting to appear, particularly along Mascoma Street and Boeing Road, but there are literally zero apartments. Over 80% of residents own their home, half the households are couples with children, and the suburb has a practical, family-oriented character.

Access is straightforward — standard suburban-width streets with driveways on most properties. The key thing to know is that Strathmore Heights is a dead-end pocket: Moonee Ponds Creek on the east, Essendon Airport fence on the west, and a freight railway line on the north mean you enter and exit the same way. Numerous courts and crescents (Douglas, Northrop, Avro, Elysee) branch off the main spine, so route knowledge helps. There are no parking restrictions on residential streets and no traffic congestion to contend with. Every pickup is a front-door collection from a house with a driveway — no buzzers, no lifts, no security barriers. This is as simple as suburban delivery gets.
