Behind Chapel Street’s commercial intensity, Prahran’s side streets are lined with Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses — particularly south of High Street on streets like Chatsworth Road, Wattle Tree Road, and Highbury Grove, where heritage overlays have kept the period character intact. North of High Street towards Toorak Road is denser and more apartment-heavy, with newer developments filling in between older stock. Over half the suburb rents, and Prahran has one of the higher share-house rates in inner Melbourne — about 13 per cent of households. Many of the older terraces were built without dedicated laundry space, and share houses cycling through residents means constant demand for wash and fold. Grattan Gardens and the Greville Street pocket mix smaller bohemian-character terraces with newer apartment buildings.

Parking anywhere near Chapel Street or Prahran Market is difficult — metered, time-restricted, and heavily enforced. The residential streets further from Chapel — east toward Williams Road, west toward Punt Road — are easier, though many still have two-hour permit zones. Most Prahran apartment buildings have intercom-only access with no concierge, so we coordinate a pickup time with you. The period terraces have front doors on or very close to the street, sometimes with rear laneway access via the original bluestone laneways that run behind the rows. These are quick, straightforward pickups.
