Alphington has two distinct halves. The established streets east of the Paper Mill site — Yarralea Road, Como Road, the St James Park area around Park Crescent — are detached Edwardian and interwar homes in garden settings on generous blocks. These are predominantly owner-occupied family homes. On the other side, YarraBend on the former Paper Mill site is now home to several hundred residents in completed townhouse precincts along Mills Boulevard and Parkview Road. The townhouses are three to four storeys with individual front doors and private garages. A much larger phase is still to come — The Village Alphington on the western portion has approval for 632 apartments across buildings up to 14 storeys, though construction timing is unclear. When that fills, the suburb’s population will roughly double.

The established streets have excellent kerbside parking — wide, leafy, with driveways and garages on most properties. YarraBend’s internal road network is accessed from Heidelberg Road or Chandler Highway, with Mills Boulevard and Parkview Road as the main internal routes. The completed townhouses have direct front-door access from the street, which makes pickups straightforward. Future apartment buildings in the Village Alphington precinct will have intercom entry — include your building name and access details when you book. Some internal roads on the eastern side of Parkview Road were only recently opened, so the layout is still settling in.
